Our Story

As told by Raelee

In November 2018 a mutual friend texted me to ask if he could the new officer in town my

number, as he felt we would be the perfect match; both a little shy and loved cats. I agreed, but it wasn’t until December second that Jacob actually texted me. I was in Calgary on a Christmas shopping trip with my BFF Sarah and Jacob and I texted the whole time… sorry, Sarah!

After that night, we arranged a date for mid-December. We went for dinner and to see the new cartoon Grinch movie. I knew he was special from that point on. We had only been on one date when I went to Palm Springs over Christmas and my cat, Theo, got very sick.Jacob picked him up from the vet and spent the whole night getting scratched while he tried to give the cat his medication. He then stayed with Theo at my place and continued to care for him until I was home. It was because of this that I knew he was the one.

We were head over heels in love from that point on. Jacob moved in to my house in March 2019 and we got a dog, Nova, the very same month. This was a big deal for me as someone who has only ever liked cats. I always say that Jacob made me a “Nova” person, not a dog person.

We continued to enjoy life and have fun. This included trips to the mountains and back home to Jacob’s hometown in Nova Scotia where I met most of his huge family!

Jacob proposed Christmas Eve 2019! He had the ring wrapped and under the tree all of December and I never once noticed.

Plans were underway for a mountain wedding in August, but 2020 had other plans. Despite restrictions from COVID-19, Jacob and Raelee could not wait to start their married lives together. Plans were changed and they were married in a beautiful backyard wedding with just close friends and family in attendance.

We wish the happy couple all the best and a long and happy life together.
